Covid-19: The Use Of Disposable And Ultra-Absorbent Devices For The Collection Of Excreta Is Recommended

In a context of increased tension in the face of Covid-19 contamination, it is important to emphasize the importance of good management of the collection, transport and elimination of excreta from bedridden patients.

Indeed, excreta appear to be a significant vector of contamination.

Studies show that a number of patients have had symptoms of diarrhea, nausea and vomiting before they even have respiratory symptoms and cases have been reported or the virus has been detected in the stool without being detected in samples from the respiratory tract (1).

Similarly, a study showed a very high presence of the active virus in the stool of 53% of patients hospitalized for Covid-19 (2).

Also, it is key to take the necessary measures to limit the contamination linked to excreta and in particular towards the nursing staff. Indeed, the nursing staff is the most exposed; 3 out of 4 people infected in the hospital have been shown to be caregivers (3).

In this context, the use of disposable and ultra-absorbent devices for the collection of excreta is all the more essential in this pandemic context.

In fact, as has been demonstrated, the use of hygienic basin protection bags fitted with ultra-absorbent pads prevents contamination and splashes and allows their elimination under optimum safety conditions. This device must therefore be widely acclaimed.
